I know that's what I found when I checked this with regard to computer parts. I just think ADK are offering a discount on Reaper - and perhaps they are even subsidizing that discount by offsetting the cost somewhere else in the computer build.įurther, if I'm not mistaken, there should be no VAT charged on computers/computer parts in most countries. But, if ADK is selling their products to someone in a different state, there is no sales tax with most interstate commerce (though there are a few exceptions to this). Though I suspect tax for some would make it back up to the $200? These guys know what they're doing with PCs, and when I have spoke with them on the phone, they are approachable, generous, and humorous.
I just did a quicky review on one of the systems ADK builds and was very impressed, considering that I build my own high-end systems (just had a new Core 2 Quad retail processor delivered this morning, so I'm gonna start building *my* new DAW later today!), and have for years, and I tend to believe that most retail computer builders don't always know what they're doing. My gut tells me that they're on the up and up, and that they dig Reaper. Then, following the Software link on that page, you come to where Reaper is on sale at $179 - not sure whether that's a $40 licence being sold at a big profit, or a $200 licence being sold cheap? Anyway, it would be interesting to know whether Reaper is now officially being sold via dealers like that, or whether these guys (who seem perfectly reputable) are just acting as a middleman for a program they clearly seem to be enthusiastic about? Other software that is available is Cubase 4 and Nuendo 3."
